Google Business Profile optimization

When a homeowner searches for your service nearby, your Google Business Profile is often the first thing they see, right on the map. We make sure it's complete, active and set up by Google's rules, so it shows up and gets the call.

The three things Google looks at on the map

Google's own help center lists three factors for local ranking. You can't change your distance. You can improve the other two, and that's what Google Business Profile optimization is about.

01

Relevance

How well your profile matches what someone searched. Categories, services and your description do most of this work.

02

Distance

How close you are to the person searching, or to the place they named. A service area set up honestly helps you show up where you really work.

03

Prominence

How well known your business is. Reviews, your rating, your website and mentions around the web all count.

Your profile is live. So why isn't the phone ringing?

The invisible pin

“My business doesn't show up on Google Maps.”

Why it happens: the profile isn't verified, the primary category doesn't match your main service, or the service area doesn't cover where the customer is.

We check verification and ownership first, set the primary category to the service that makes you the most money and match your service area to where you actually work.

The suspension scare

“Google suspended my profile, and I don't know why.”

Why it happens: Google's own summary warns that adding keywords to your business name violates its guidelines and risks suspension. Names that don't match your real signage do too.

We set your profile up by the rules from the start: your real business name, real categories and an honest service area. If it's already suspended, we help you find what likely triggered it before you appeal.

The ghost profile

“I set it up years ago and never touched it again.”

Why it happens: no new photos, no posts, reviews left unanswered. To a homeowner it looks like nobody's home.

Google's AI summary recommends fresh photos every quarter, a post every week and a reply to every review. We turn that into a simple routine your crew can keep up with.

The review gap

“My competitors have way more reviews than I do.”

Why it happens: they ask every customer, every time. Without a system, most happy customers never think to leave one.

A direct review link, a QR code and a short text after every job, plus a reply to every review. The full routine is in our guide on how to get more Google reviews.

Your profile, section by section

Most people still call it Google My Business. Whatever the name, Google My Business optimization covers the same sections, and we go through every one.

01Verification and ownership

Your profile has to be verified to show up properly, and you should own it, not a former employee or an old agency. Google may verify by phone, email, postcard or a short video.

02Name, address and phone, exactly as in real life

Your legal name or official DBA, with no extra keywords. The same phone and address on your profile, your website and every directory that lists you.

03Primary and secondary categories

The primary category is one of the strongest signals in the whole profile. Pick the one that matches your main service, then add the secondary categories that apply. Google allows up to nine more.

04A 750-character description

What you do and where you do it, in the first 250 characters, because that's what people read. Factual, with no links or promotional claims, which Google doesn't allow in this field.

05Hours, holiday hours and service area

Regular hours kept up to date and special hours for holidays. If you work at the customer's location, like most contractors, you can hide your address and list a service area instead.

06Logo, cover and real job photos

Your logo, a cover photo, your team, your vehicles and finished jobs. New photos every few months keep the profile active and give people a reason to trust you before they call.

07Services, posts and your website link

Each service listed with a clear name and a short description, a post every week or two, and your website linked with tracking so you can see which calls came from the profile. A good contractor website makes the link worth clicking.

Questions about Google Business Profile optimization

Ask us on WhatsApp

01How much does it cost to optimize a Google My Business profile?

The profile itself is free, and so is our audit. Fixing what the audit finds is usually a short project, and we'll tell you if that's all you need before suggesting anything bigger.

02Is Google My Business the same as Google Business Profile?

Yes. Google renamed Google My Business to Google Business Profile. GMB optimization and GBP optimization mean the same thing.

03How long until my profile shows up higher on Google Maps?

Fixes like the right category or a correct service area can make a difference once Google processes them. Reviews and photos build up over months. Distance to the person searching always plays a part, so results vary by neighborhood.

04Can I hide my address if I work at my customers' homes?

Yes. Service-area businesses can hide their address and list the areas they serve instead. It's allowed and common for contractors.

05Is SEO dead now with AI?

No. AI assistants lean on the same sources. When we asked ChatGPT for local businesses in Charlotte and Greenville, it listed companies with a physical address and plenty of Google reviews. A complete profile helps in both places.

06Is Google Optimize still available?

No. Google Optimize was a website testing tool and Google shut it down in 2023. It has nothing to do with your Business Profile.
